JOHANNESBURG – Advocate Coreth Naude, a lawyer representing the South African Revenue Service (SARS), is currently recuperating in a KwaZulu-Natal hospital following what authorities are describing as an assassination attempt.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night when Advocate Naude was entering a hotel parking lot in Umhlanga, an affluent suburb. According to reports, two unidentified assailants opened fire on her vehicle.
Advocate Naude has been actively involved in representing SARS in the tax inquiry concerning controversial businesswoman Shawn Mkhize.
Following the attack, Advocate Naude was swiftly transported to hospital for medical attention, prompting KZN police to initiate a case of attempted murder.
As investigations into the incident continue, Advocate Naude’s condition is reported to be stable, and she is steadily recovering in hospital.
SARS spokesperson Siphithi Sibeko expressed condemnation of the attack, labeling it as shocking and an attempt to intimidate officers of the court.
