FNB will launch its first mobile voice and data services under the FNB Connect brand on 15 June 2015.

FNB is the first local bank to offer its clients its own SIM cards, and customers will be able to choose from a range of mobile voice and data products.

The FNB Connect mobile services will integrate with digital platforms such as FNB’s Online Banking. This gives subscribers a single login to manage their financial and mobile accounts.

Customers can also earn up to 40% back in eBucks on any FNB Connect mobile offering from 1 July.

Why FNB selected Cell C

Many people were excited about FNB’s entrance into the mobile market, but expressed concerns about its mobile partner Cell C’s network quality.

FNB Connect CEO Ravesh Ramlakan told MyBroadband they engaged with all parties, and that Cell C served their needs best.

“FNB was looking for a partner that was willing to innovate and change the space in their environment, in the same way that FNB has innovated and changed the banking space,” said Ramlakan.

“We also required a partner that was willing to change their model to accommodate this kind of partnership. This is why FNB decided to partner with Cell C.”

Ramlakan also downplayed concerns about Cell C’s network quality, saying the response from people using the service has been positive.

“We have been on a staff pilot from November and currently have a few thousand staff on the pilot. The response has been positive.”

“We would encourage customers to experience the service on the different digital front ends and the entire end-to-end service themselves, by applying for a SIM card through Online Banking.”
