The rand was trading in a wide range on Friday morning as sentiment and global news kept the currency volatile.
At 8.30am‚ the rand was trading at R16.5225 against the dollar from a previous close of R16.4528.
Against the euro the rand was at R17.9857 from R17.8783 previously‚ and R23.7950 against the pound from R23.7174.
The euro was at $1.0885 from a previous close of $1.0865.
Rand Merchant Bank analysts said the rand was currently a puppet to local and world events.
“It will not take much to get the rand moving again‚ with US‚ China‚ oil and local sentiment all providing meaningful risk‚” the analysts said. – TMG Digital/BDlive
